Robot tricks / 17.10.2025

How are robots programmed, and how do they perceive and react to their environment?
In small groups, we explore these questions using LEGO Mindstorms software to get hands-on experience with programming robots. With a wide range of sensors and components at our disposal, we can “teach” these little machines to perform tasks like painting or dancing.

 Animated film / 07.11.2025

In animated films, motion sequences of drawn, cut-out, or collaged images are not recorded in real time like in live-action films. Instead, they are captured frame by frame. Many video artworks in the ZKM exhibitions make use of this stop-motion technique. In our workshop, we create our own poetic and aesthetic images, which we then bring to life in an animated film — all with minimal technical effort.

Programming with Calliope / 05.12.2025

Intuitive code blocks and beginner-friendly programming languages offer a quick and easy introduction to coding. The Calliope mini experimental board allows you to explore technology and IT concepts in a playful and hands-on way. Creative projects come to life — from glowing and singing smileys to simple moving figures.

Cyanotype – photograms / 09.01.2025

In the 1840s, botanist Anna Atkins published a groundbreaking book illustrated entirely with photographs. These images were created using a unique technique known as iron blue printing.
This process, called cyanotype, allows you to create images without a camera — all you need is some chemistry, paper, sunlight, and water. In this workshop, we’ll explore how cyanotypes are made and then take plenty of time to experiment and share our creative ideas.

Programming with Sonic Pi / 13.02.2025

If you want to compose music using computer programs, this is the place to be!
With the help of the free software Sonic Pi, you can create sounds and melodies that can be modified in real time. Along the way, you’ll intuitively learn a programming language and gain a solid understanding of basic coding techniques.
