Transport
Bus transportation between Heidelberg and ESK.
Since the autumn holidays in October, 2011 the bus transportation service used for the transport of several children from Heidelberg, Sandhausen and Waldorf came to an end for economic reasons.
Now families manage the transportation of their children through an important personal investment.
Although we have already identified one or two solutions, the amount of children (6) is insufficient to be cost-effective.
To solve this issue, we are looking for families living in Heidelberg vicinity who could have interests in a school bus service or have already a solution able to take into account additional children.

In view of its many years experience, Etoile Education is now coordinating with families in the Heidleberg area to put into place a simillar school bus service.
Transport 2010/2011 report
The number of children taking the buses and trams has remained relatively constant. Only on Mondays at 12.30 are there too few children going by bus and tram. For children who would normally not take the school transport but wish to occasionally accompany friends home, the KVV Transport Committee has created a special ticket that is only valid for the school buses and trams. It is a one-way ticket with a single fixed price of €2.20, independent of the age of the student and the length of the journey. The price is an average calculated from all tarifs.
After the Autumn half term holiday, a change in the bus timetable plan was instigated to optimise the use of buses. Bus 11 was too full and Bus 14 had extra capacity and for this reason is now directed to Leopoldshafen. This has unfortunately lengthened the journey time of Bus 14 by 5 minutes. This cannot be changed.
Frau Pavlicikova and Frau Meyer visited every class of the Grudnschule at the beginning of the school year to talk about the transport rules. In the comming weeks children will be receiving a questionnaire about these rules. They should fill in the answers by themselves, parents should sign the document and then give it back to the class teacher. The children of the 5 best questionnaires will be awared a surprise. The aim of this activity is to make sure that the children are aware of safety rules at the bus and tram stops as well as the correct behaviour on the buses and trams.
We appeal to the parents again to make sure that their children are aware of the rules and to ensure that the children take the school transport rather than the No. 4 tram if at all possible. Children are taking the No. 4 tram (because it is “cool”). There are many schools in Waldstadt who would gladly have their own transport, and they often complain to KVV that all the places on the No. 4 are taken by the ESK students. If this trend continues, KVV will reconsider whether the European School Karlsruhe really needs dedicated transport if it is not used daily.
We should be happy and thankful for the school transport system which is unique in the whole of Baden Württemberg. We are the only school where the price of the ticket is for public transport as well as 4 buses and 3 school trams which only transport our students without extra cost. Other schools either have school buses and no “scoolcard” (so that every journey that is not to and from school has to be paid for extra by parents) or they have a “scoolcard” and only public transport.
If you have any questions, the Transport office is open on Thursday afternoons from 12.30 to 15.00. The office is in the Administration Building. Or you can email us on: Transport@eskar.org
We wish the children happy travelling.

Transport information
Until now, travel on the school busses and trams has been restricted to pupils in possession of a scoolcard or a kindergarten pass. Many parents have expressed the wish that their children should also be able to take friends home with them. We are pleased to report that our negotiations with the transport companies have now been successful.
From January 2011 there will be a special ticket for occasional users which can be used only on the school transport system.
Price: €2.20 (for all age groups)
Validity: European school busses and trams irrespective of length of journey
Where can I buy them? - From the security personnel, either for the date of the journey itself or for another specific date (the date is printed in the ticket).
The name of the pupil is also entered on the ticket. Purchasers of the tickets will be registered.
These tickets are only intended for occasional users, not for those using school buses and trams on a regular basis.
Please note that until the end of December only pupils with the scoolcard or a kindergarten pass may use the school busses and trams. The drivers are instructed not to carry any children not in possession of these cards/passes.

in einem durchsichtigen Brustbeute,l um den Hals zu hängen.
Wir sind in Verhandlung mit den Verkehrsunternehmen, um eine Lösung für Kinder
die als "Gast" zu einem Freund fahren wollen, zu finden. Sobald Ergebnisse
vorliegen, werden wir informieren. Bis dahin gilt: EINSTIEG NUR MIT SCOOLCARD;
