Noticeboard 5 March 2009
Noticeboard 5 March 2009
Dear Parents,
First of all we want to thank you for the fantastic response to our appeal for host families for EuroSport - 19th to 21st March. However, we could still use more beds so please urgently contact Herr Theo Heunen (heunent@eskar.org) if you can help or if you haven’t received a confirmation e-mail dated Friday, 6 March. Don’t forget, every student you house equals an entry into the PA Host Family Tombola. Check out the great prizes on the EuroSport Website www.ur-o-sport.eu. Also, get the kids to register and join in the EuroSport team spirit. Only two weeks to EuroSport and counting.
The EuroSport Finals Day kicks off at 11am at the school on Saturday 21 March and the whole school is invited to come and support the Karlsruhe Team. We wish them every success and thank Matteo Guerra and all the sports teachers for all their hard work organising this event. The day ends around 5:30pm with the Prize giving Ceremony and the Host Family Tombola.
In agreement with the school, the PA feel that having so many families around for the day is an excellent opportunity to raise money for your class or section fund by providing food, small activities like face painting, etc. So far, the French Section are having a wine and cheese stand and the Student Social Committee will do drinks. Let Cindy van Velzen know at the latest by Friday 13 March, what you plan to do and how many tables, etc. you need.
ESK PA and Class Reps
The PA Committee hosted a dinner on Friday 13 February 2009 for class reps, teachers and staff, aimed at presenting the new PA team and to provide an informal opportunity for everyone to get to know each other. Dancing continued past midnight! The real work started on Wednesday 4 March with the PA’s first meeting with Class Reps, mainly outlining how the European Schools system (www.eursc.eu) and Interparents (www.interparents.eu) work. There was a brief discussion on the Reform of the European schools system and the challenges of a multilingual curriculum and particularly Second Language teaching for which an ESK PA working group has been set up. A joint meeting of the PA/Class Reps will take place on the 25 March at 6pm Admin Building to prepare for the Educational Council. Please e-mail your concerns, suggestions, positive experiences, best practices, etc. to your Class Rep or Section Rep before then. Contacts are on the PA website.
The European Kangaroo-Maths competition 2009 is being held this year on the 19th and 20th March in the Aula at school. 160 pupils from the primary and secondary school are participating this year and all at the Parents’ Association would like to take this opportunity to wish them lots of luck and success. Even though registration for this year’s competition is now closed, you can get further information about Kangaroo Maths from their internet site: www.mathkang.org , www.mathekaenguru.de , www.kangourou.it , and www.kun.nl/kangoeroe . Many thanks to Frau Elke Schubert and Herr Zilly who have put in a lot of work to organise this event.
Future dates to remember are

Saturday 16th May - Etoile Education Bike Ride/Festival
Saturday 21st June - School fete
Exam dates
Oberschule students start their exams soon and these will take place in the Aula.
