Noticeboard 15 June 2009

Noticeboard 15 June 2009

Hello everybody

PA 2009 SUMMER FETE
In just a couple of days on Sunday, is the 2009 PA Summer Fete. You should have all received information about the day. Details are also on the school website and you can always contact us here, at the PA if you have any questions. We hope you all can come and have fun.
We still need volunteer helpers – in the refreshment tent, the cafe and for the other activities.
Please ring us, or email us and register your name so that we can put you on the team list. We need at least 35 helpers just for the refreshment tent so you can see how much we need your help to make sure that this is a fantastic day for everyone.
Donating books for the “books for bytes” book stall
You can bring books to the school any time during school hours this week and put them into the basement in the administration building (the security men know exactly where) or you can bring them directly to the book stall on Sunday when you come to the fete – which ever is easier for you.
It is going to be great fun for the whole family - See you there!
And please don’t forget to bring a cake

Here are some short notices from other parents. Please contact them directly if you wish further information. Thank you.

A message (in German and English) from the School Nurse, Frau Ebert:

I.Ebert
ESK Krankensschwester.
*****
In 2007/2008 we raised 1500 Euros through donations and by selling cakes, bread rolls and drinks to finance an operation for a Polish child. The money is being held in the PA bank account. Since raising the funds, we have heard that the hospital will now cover the cost of the operation, so we have chosen 3 other children’s charities to receive the donated money:

“Wild Wasser” works with women and girls who are victims of abuse. www.wildwasser-frauennotruf.de
„Kinder und Jungenhilfezentrum“ in Karlsruhe www.foerderkreis-fuer-kinder.de
„SMA“ Spinal muscular dystrophy is a genetic disease and the researchers need money to support their work. There is a child at ESK in the kindergarten who suffers from muscular dystrophy.
www.sma-deutschland.de

Each organisation will get 500 Euros.
And finally, many thanks go to all those who have donated money or have helped us reach our goal.

Brief report from the Joint (OS and GS) Educational Council meeting 4th June 2009

New KITA
Herr Høyem informed everyone that the new Kita (nursery) will open this September for 0-3 year olds. The next big school project will be the introduction of school boarding facility in 2011.

Shorter waiting times in Canteen
The School is examining ways to minimise queues in the canteen at lunch time. The new canteen system will help towards students moving more quickly to get their lunch. The school Management will also inform everyone of any additional changes, as soon as the new system is in place.

Bullying/mobbing
Frau Papp did a presentation on conflict (mobbing, bullying) prevention. Frau Pavlicikova informed everyone of their in-service training for teachers in the Grundschule and anti-bullying policy which was being presented in their pedagogical meeting. Herr Da Torre underlined the aspect of pastoral care with class teachers and also special teachers in a listening group for the Oberschule.

New security company
Herr Dannenmaier (School Burser) announced that there will be a new security company starting in September. Karlsruhe City is also preparing a security plan/guidelines for all schools in the region, and in addition ESK will have its own plan/guidelines in case of emergency.

School Development Group (SDG)
Started earlier this year by ESK teachers , the SDG have been looking at ways to improve the school in small areas that positively affect daily life. This is not to say that there are problems with how things are done now but it is always good to have a fresh look at things. The idea is to have an open forum to exchange ideas and come up with small concrete practical ways of implementing improvements. Parents and students are represented at meetings.

New caterers in September
The new caterers, SCOLAREST, presented their new canteen system, which was well received by everyone. If you did not manage to attend the presentation there is a short version on the school website and information will be sent to you shortly with all the details of prices and how the new system will operate.

Thank you
Herr Da Torre and Frau Pavlicikova also reported on the various events and activities that have taken place this year and they thanked all those involved in the organising and supporting of these activities.

Parents’ Association
Ana Gorey (vice-President, PA) reported on the work of the PA this past year and thanked in particular Cindy Van Velzen (President, PA) for all her hard work, time and dedication which have resulted in the re-vitalisation of the Parents’ Association.

The full official minutes of this meeting are available on the school website.
