charity bowling event for Haiti - 10th February
charity bowling event for Haiti - 10th February
poster The scale of the disaster in Haiti has prompted people around the world to take action in a way that would not normally be the case. The ESK is no different in this respect.
Julian Morgan and I (aka the Colonel & Mrs Turpin), along with the help of other colleagues, are organising a charity bowling event at the Lago-Bowling centre, Gablonzer Straße 13, at the junction of the B36 (Neureuter Strasse) & Siemensallee in Karlsruhe. It will take place from 13:00 until 18:00 on Wednesday 10th February - we wanted to do it quickly whilst Haiti is still in everybody's minds.
The bowling starts at 13:00, 14:00 and 16:00. We plan to use the two earlier sessions for years 1,2,3 and then years 4,5,6 at 16:00 - this will depend on the numbers we get for each year.
The plan is that children from our school will get their friends and family to sponsor them. They get paid for each point they score. This is recorded on a sponsor sheet they get from either of us in the next few days - they are available from today. They then bowl 2 full games and we get a print out of their scores from the bowling people. We note the score on their sponsor form and sign them before they leave.
After the event they collect the money and it will be sent, together with money raised by other activities in the school, by Herr Dannenmaier to the Europäische Brunnengesellschaft for use specifically to help in Haiti. The school has already been in contact with them about this.
Lago have offered to let all the children bowl for free, and there will be prizes for high scores. Given that over 200 students could bowl on the afternoon and each could raise say 20-30? (or more) this could be a very significant fund-raising event to go with the other work the school is doing for Haiti.
Parents are requested to:
1) encourage and help their children to take part
2) help with the event at Lago on the day if they would like to
- in particular helping to provide transport for children and friends where necessary to ensure they arrive on time (at least 15 mins before they are due to start) and can get home afterwards (we hope if possible to use the tram system to get the childen there),
and assisting with organisation on the bowling lanes to help the event run as smoothly as possible - we will get as many teachers there as possible but the presence of parents can only help.
Thanks,
Julian Morgan & Anthony Boothroyd.
