Welcome Back Party and Etoile Education Bike Ride – a double success

The 5th Annual Etoile Education Bike Ride, took place for the first time at the beginning of the year and in conjunction with the first School and Parents’ Association Welcome Back Party, Saturday 3 October 2009.

The weather was the best ever, a bright, beautiful day to pedal from Strasbourg to Appenweir and then through Karlsruhe and the Waldstadt via two separate routes.

Nearly one hundred riders had a great day and raised over 1,200 Euros for the Bike and Bus Fund which every year donates something to the school –

• 2005 - 6 bikes for newly inaugurated Bike Programme (600€) and books for the Primary School Library (350€)
• 2006 – 6 red tables and benches we all sat on in the courtyard (500)
• 2007 –Sports equipment for classroom boxes (500€)
• 2008 – Summer issue of EuroJunior (770€), ESKADO Choir Festival April 2008 (700€) and 1E-OS class trip 13 May 2008 (280€)

Our thanks to Dana Pavlíçiková for joining in and Mr. Høyem for picking out the Tombola winner. Congratulations to tombola winner Eliot Kin (4E OS) – a NEW BIKE!.

Special thanks go to everyone at the school - in particular to Eugene Voorneman (Dutch Section), Jerry Fitzgerald (1E), Louis Abson (4E), Sylvie Bialecki (4F), Bernie Theisz (4 D) and Mr. Schnitzer - for all the hard work and support, Elio Sanzillo for the ADAC, the Belgians for the food as well as Scolarest who sponsored the sausages and the tasty dips, Year 5E GS for coffee and biscuits, assorted bike prizes from LuK - “Gearing up for tomorrow”, Dow, Intersport Profimarkt who gave every participant a waterbottle and 2 bike shirts, donated by the KVV/Frau Meyer.

The day was enjoyed by everyone and was a good occasion to meet new families and old friends at the start of the year. The Parents’ Association look forward to this Welcome Back Party happening every year.
