Hello everybody

PA 2009 SUMMER FETE
In just a couple of days on Sunday, is the 2009 PA Summer Fete. You should have all received information about the day. Details are also on the school website and you can always contact us here, at the PA if you have any questions. We hope you all can come and have fun.
We still need volunteer helpers – in the refreshment tent, the cafe and for the other activities.
Please ring us, or email us and register your name so that we can put you on the team list. We need at least 35 helpers just for the refreshment tent so you can see how much we need your help to make sure that...

Parents' Associations of all European Schools are joined under the umbrella organisation Interparents. Interparents, in turn, represents parents on issues dealt with by the Board of Governors in Brussels. Issues range from nursery and primary teaching, secondary teaching, administrative and financial issues, Special Educational Needs and Learning Support, Attainment contracts, the European Baccalaureat qualification, languages and libraries and the development and reform of the European Schools. The Members of the Committee represent parents’ interests in all areas connected with the school.

PA committee members represent parents on the Educational Council, the Administration Board and other Working Groups created to deal with various issues of the school. They are also responsible for communicating to parents the reports of meetings so that parents are kept fully aware of the progress and development of the school. The full Committee meets once a month and some members also attend school meetings 4 or 5 times a year.

In what ways has the PA influenced the school community...

The Committee Members of the Parents Association are charged with dealing with numerous issues within the Parents Association. Committee members are elected by the General Assembly. Each language section is represented on the Parents’ Association Board.

Board Directors
The Members of the Committee elect a President, vice-President and a Treasurer who are invited to sit on other school committees. The structure and duties of the Board of Directors and the Members of the Committee are specified in the statutes which are valid for all European Schools.

The Parents’ Association of the European School Karlsruhe represents the interests of all parents. The association is a registered organisation and membership is voluntary. We aim to support and advance the educational process and wellbeing of their children throughout their stay at the school. The annual fee is only 30,-€ per family per year. All parents are welcome and your contribution is of great value in the success of the school.

The European Schools are official educational establishments controlled jointly by the governments of the Member States of the European Union on the basis of Convention defining the Statute of the European Schools. There are currently 14 European Schools in 7 different countries and with a total of approximately 21,000 pupils.

Celiac Disease Support Group - for families with children at ESK who need to follow strict, life-long special gluten-free diets. This support group offers help and advice to parents to ensure that their children receive the necessary dietary controls and attention while they are at school.

On Thursday 4 June, Cindy van Velzen, President of the Parents Association and Ana Gorey, Vice-President met with the Management Team, Director Mr. Hoyem, and his Deputy Directors, Mr. da Torre, Mrs. Pavlicikova, for an overview of the year and in preparation for the Joint Education Council later that day.

There are two parent class representatives per class and they can share out tasks according to their personal interests. Parent class representatives are important links for information and representation purposes, as well as contact points for parents.
By working together Parent class representatives can create a solid basis for life in the class. The organisation of get-togethers with the families of the class means that parents get to know one another. This climate of trust has a positive effect on the students and their schooling.
